Stephanie's two grandmother's were the yin and yang of knitting. Millie was an expert knitter, working
on small gauge sweaters with complex patterns. Mary was a fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants knitter,
ignoring gauge & instructions and throwing any random skeins into the mix. Millie didn't have the
patience to teach. Mary was a wonderful teacher. Stephanie got the best from both of them.
A knitter from childhood, her first garment was made while a theater major at UCLA. It was a black,
long sleeved, turtleneck sweater with a peplum, knit in a scratchy acrylic. “I wore that sweater
proudly. It was beautiful. No one told me it would be too hard to make. I just looked up what I didn't
know, and made a sweater.” With a firm belief that knitting is good for the soul and everyone should
experience the joy that comes with making something with your own hands, Stephanie left a career in
development and opened Unwind in 2004.
“It's been a thrilling experience sharing this craft and meeting so many amazing people along the way.” |

Looking for a lightweight cardi/shrug to knit now and wear this summer?
I just finished this Norah Gaughan design from Berroco Origami.
It's called Kiama, was a quick knit with zero finishing. You work the sleeves in
one piece like a scarf and then pick up stitches to work the body. A few increases
here and there make a great swingy shape. Check out the Ravelry gallery for Kiama,
and you'll fall further in love.
The cardi is so versatile and fits a wide range of women. I'm wearing the XS/S size,
and I usually knit for a 38" bust! This size takes just 10 skeins of Origami. The M/L takes 11
and the XL/XXL takes 13. It's an affordable classic that's fun to knit. Check out our Origami page
on at the Unwind web store for more details about the yarn!

As soon as I saw the Oscilloscope Shawl I knew I needed to knit it...NOW. Besides being totally fun, it was quick. This one is for me, but it was so rewarding to make I can easily see making it over several times as gifts. It took very little yarn. This one is knit from Manos del Uruguay's new yarn -- Maxima. The colors are very rich, and the yarn is very soft. I can wear it right up against my face and feel so cozy. I'll be doing another in Mission Falls 1824 Wool for a solid version that's just as soft.

"Suzanne made one, and I shamelessly copied her! Check out her page. I was going to use a 100% linen, but then I fell in love with the soft hand of the Classic Elite Allegoro. I lived in this tunic all summer long. I added about three inches to the length and eliminated the pockets -- didn't think my hips needed any more attention!"
