Dandelion Handbag
The following pattern consists of these steps:
Crocheting the Body of the bag
Sewing the Sides
Creating a Bottom for the Bag
Crocheting and Attaching Handles for the Bag
Materials:
1 Skein of Giardino by Filatura Di Crosa (Yarn A)
Less than one skein of Cotton Classic by Tahki in White (Yarn B)
K Hook |
Stitches: Single Crochet (SC) SC in front loop only
Double Base Chain
Before starting consider what size you want your bag to be.
The size suggested below should work up easily using less than one skein of Giardino.

Crochet the Bag:
Starting Chain: Begin the chain two feet into the yarn so that you can use this length of yarn on the side seam. Chain the number of chains necessary to achieve the width you have chosen for your handbag plus one for turning. Chain loosely and allow the little "dandelions" in the Giardino to pop through the loops in the chain.
Foundation Row: SC in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across.
Row 2: SC through front loop in each SC from the previous row across.
Repeat Row 2 until the rectangle meets the length you desire. (see above illustration) Knot off, do not cut the yarn yet.

Create the Bottom:
Make the Handles:
Using B, crochet a Double Chain that is 14 inches long.
Change to A and SC into each chain across the row.
Knot off leaving enough yarn to attach the handle to the handbag.
Repeat for the second handle.
Using the remaining yarn at ends of the handles, stitch the handles to the inside, about half an inch from the top and a quarter inch from the side.
Use your favorite Flower Pattern or come back soon for the pattern used in the picture...
Notes: If you have difficulty chaining loosely on the K hook, move up another size.
Placing a piece of card stock in the bottom of the bag will help it maintain the shape.
Lining will keep your keys and other things from poking out: HelloKnitty (Adobe PDF Format) has a good lining tuturial.
